Does med school change people's personality for the better or the worse?

Ha - they can be :) it is a bit strange that they spend so much time building you up in preclerkship and then not really much at all in clerkship (which is actually where you need to be reminded that yes you are not an idiot, and yes you will get through things). Preclerks don't need to be told they are special - they just got into medical school and are aware of exactly how hard that is. 

It would be nice if someone showed up in clerkship and did something similar to say the while coat ceremony.

My school actually holds the white coat ceremony during 3rd year since they probably acknowledge that we're totally useless in 1st year and thefore probably not very deserving of the white coat whereas we're a little less useless in 3rd year. It's also a nice morale boost as you are saying.

good plan - plus if you are actually going to use the white coat at all it is going to be in clerkship. 

we had someone actually try to use the white coat as a lab coat for the cadaver lab because they didn't see the point of it otherwise. The staff did not react well to that :)

Yeh it would be nice indeed - you never know.
