What is a pediatric residency like? Especially in Quebec? Hours? Lifestyle? Job market afterwards? How competitive is it considered?

Dunno about Quebec specifically, but hours are usually somewhere between 7-8 to 4-5 plus some sort of call schedule (some programs do at most 1 in 4 24+2 hour call, others use some variation of night float system). Lifestyle will vary heavily depending on program, call expectations, number of other residents, etc. Job market for general pediatricians is generally very good, with the usual stipulations about downtown vancouver/toronto etc.The job market for pediatric sub specialties varies but generally you will have to go where the jobs are. Pediatrics is becoming more competitive over time, certainly more than family/psych/IM, on par with general surgery, if considering ratio of first choice applicants to spots.
