Letters of References When Applying to Canadian and US Schools

I'm in the third year in McMaster University and I want to apply to both Canadian and American medical schools this summer. I'm really lost in regards to this process; who should write my LoRs? How would I submit them to both Canadian and American medical schools? When should this submission be done?

US: Have them submit it to AMCAS before July 1, after May 1. Your application excluding reference letters including transcripts should be submitted within a week of AMCAS opening for submission. Fill out secondaries within two weeks of receipt.

Canada: Have them submit it to the individual application systems (e.g. OMSAS) as required before September 15 - October 1 depending on the school.

So would I ask them to write and submit the letters twice (one to OMSAS, the other to AMCAS)? Should I ask to get these letters written before May 1 for AMCAS (especially since I want to get them written as soon as possible)?

Thanks

Yeah basically; they'll probably just write one letter and use it twice. They won't be able to submit the letters until AMCAS is open--that's sometime in the first week of May. You won't need the letters until the first week of June or so. So if you don't trust them to get it done in time, tell them to have it done by June 1 or so (this cycle, at least, AMCAS was available May 1, opened for submission June 1, and schools received verification reports on July 1 or something), and give them the info for submission (I'm not sure if it can be electronic or has to be mailed in; my US university collected all the letters and sent them together) when you have it.
