Moving across the country

Recommended Posts

Fortunately, I matched to one of my top choices, but this means that I will be moving from Ontario to Alberta. This is a really daunting move; I was wondering if anyone who has been through this process have any tips or tricks for getting through it? I'm wondering about logistics such as finding a place in advance (when you live so far away), moving your car, amongst other things.

Thank you in advance.

Congrats! I made a special trip to look at properties as I planned to buy upfront for the 5 years. Options for the car are to drive it or ship it.

Arriving early in June was helpful as there are many items (driver's license, license plates, health care card, etc.) that need to be obtained when moving to a new province, in addition to all that goes with setting up a new place to live, and settling into a new city. I found it more enjoyable to take care of these items while exploring the city in the weeks prior to orientation, as otherwise I would have been squeezing these in on post-call days after July 1st...
