York strike + implications for "full-time" status

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm so glad I found you all a couple years back. The stories and posts motivated me to overcome by dismal academic past and pursue medicine. I started a 2nd UG last fall, and was hoping to graduate this spring. Yes, I realize this would only make me potentially competitive at Western and Queens.  Regardless, the reason for my post is partly to seek clarification and partly to seek advice.

As of this afternoon, the union representing TAs and Contract Faculty at York rejected the University's contract proposal. Essentially, it looks like there will be a strike starting on Monday, and it sounds as though most classes will be canceled. I know a lot of things have to happen before the term is completely "lost", but has anyone experienced this situation? I absolutely must be considered a FT student for these two years in order to have a shot at Western and Queens. What if classes are canceled and I'm unable to complete the term because of this strike? Theoretically, it is possible that the strike continues through the end of the term, and that could/will affect students' ability to finish term courses.

Thoughts? Suggestions? My concern is that this second/final year of my 2nd UG won't be considered as F/T because of the impact of the strike.

Help!

I was fortunate enough to survive the last strike. The strike lasted 29 days and there was no impact, in fact it was a blessing in disguise. Our exam schedule was cut in half but a lot of profs made changes to the course outline or let us defer without any questions or forms.

No one can tell you how long this one will last, but I have a feeling it will be longer this time, with all these sjw and silly requests.. only thing I can say is that my profs were very accommodating and I know many people got away with getting a final grade (that does not appear any different from any other year) with completing 50-70% of the course material and like I said, deferring wasn't an issue either..

FYI the strike is now official :)
