Be Honest With My EC’s

Recommended Posts

For those that have been accepted, for those that know folks that have been accepted, and for those that are curious. Here are my EC’s, they vary, they are firm and I will be completing these for my undergrad.

I am writing from my phone, so please excuse any grammatical error(s).

non trad student with 4 years of forestry experience, two of which I had a leadership position. This all previous to starting my undergrad.

Volunteerism:

I am a youth mentor with big brother and big sister. Here I am mentoring youth at risk that are at a disadvantage in society and giving them an outlet, coping mechanisms, and providing a healthy environment. 4-6 hours a week for 3-4 years.

Work experience:

I will be employed as a Forest Fire Fighter with the Ministry of a Forest for two consecutive years for my first and second year of undergrad. This is entirely community service and is a great

I completed a medical lab assistant certificate and am also certified to perform ecgs, phlebotomy, and medical lab work at a clinic and/or hospital. After my practicum I will be put in a casual list at my local hospital.

I currently work at a Therapy Center for youth with mental health developmental disorders. Autism, fetal alcohol syndrome and other mental health problems. Here I am a team leader and I implement daily tasks and corrective behavioural intervention. My position here is “behavioural intervention”. I am a mentor to some of the children and I give life advice and almost act as a psycho-social therapist. For instance one of the kids is a 15 year old boy with a deviance disorder, and on the spectrum of autism. He opened up to my with his life growing up, how he had been beaten from his parents, and beaten with bats and objects as a young child. This served him a lot of mental disparity that he carries with him today. I am able to be his friend, and therapist and talk him through these difficult times. He never opens up to anyone and it is a pleasure to be his friend, and mentor.

My grades are strong and I plan to graduate with honours with hopes to complete a few work/co op terms to supplement my degree.

I am planning on conducting research during summers of 3rd and 4th year and during my last year I will be completing a research project supervised by a faculty member.

Honestly speaking, I do not come from a family of physicians, and I am constantly seeking inward and outward reflection if my EC’s are strong, passionate and true to me, and my community.

In comparison to others, which I know I shouldn’t do, but medical schools have a criteria in which they rely on, and my truthworthy insecurities are wondering if they’ll see me as a strong candidate.

I have a background of rural too, so I am eligible to apply as a rural candidate.

Sincerely appreciate any feedback,

cheers!
