immortal.milkboy
Esteemed colleagues, here's some backstory. I was a huge slacker in the first year of my degree. My laziness begat me a 1.7 GPA with 8 courses completed. A full course load for my degree is 10 courses per year or 5 courses per semester. I took 3 courses in the first semester and 5 courses in the second semester, thus making my first year a part-time year. Having decided at the beginning of my second year that I wanted to go to medical school, I buckled-down, dialed it in, and amped it up to finish the year with a 3.92. For reference, I'm heading into my 3rd year this fall. If I take some courses during the summer, I may be able to finish my degree within the 4 year period. What I want to know is: since I didn't complete my first-year full time (only the second semester at full time), would those grades count towards my cGPA, or would the Medical school only look at my 3 years of full-time study? My first choice is UofT, but I'm planning on applying to all Ontario Medical schools. Thanks, comrades.
immortal.milkboy
Was something wrong with my post? Oh well, I messaged UofT and a few other schools. Here's what they responded: 3 or more courses per semester are considered full time 5 courses per semester is considered full-course load 4 courses for one semester and 6 courses for the next semester is also considered full course load There is a difference between full-time study and having a full-course load A Full course load also means that you are full-time, thus qualifying you for weighted and cumulative GPA calculations Being full-time but not taking full course load qualifies your courses for cumulative GPA consideration, but not weighted GPA Leaving this here for others in the future. Nothing was wrong with your first post! Personally I was unfamiliar with GPA calculations, so I didn’t reply. Thank you so much for sharing what you found. Greatly appreciated
