White-Tiger
I was just wondering whether or not Canadian Anesthesia Programs are recognized by the American Board of Anethesiology? Are we eligible to sit their exams and gain licensure?

Guest Apollo
Any comments about this ("McSleepy") and how it might affect the future of anesthesia in Canada: http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2008/05/02/anesthesia-system.html
srindogg@hotmail.com
I took a course with a EE prof who's pretty prominent in this field (automated anesthesia). His thoughts echoed those in the article. The technology is meant to complement the anesthesiologist, not replace them. Some of the reasons why are mentioned in the article. Another important issue is the approval for clinical use. There is no way it would be approved if there wasn't a anesthesiologist monitoring the whole procedure. I don't know a lot about anesthesia but this technology seems pretty kick-ass and could make life much easier for doctors!
fourtytwo
I don't think it'll negatively affect MDs at all. The people who should be scared are CRNAs and AAs.
Doc2Law
It is possible to move to U.S. with a Canadian training. However, you'll first have to know if you are eligible for U.S. citizenship/Similar things such as green card before you can undertake the procedures for "transition". If your License is not recognized there, you will have to pass the boards and wait for the response. Yes, you will be able to match in a U.S. Residency and train there if you are a fresh-out M.D.
