Guest dddd
Could anyone tell me what a 'typical' type of week looks like at U of S in the first 2 years? For example, is it lectures/anatomy every morning with a couple afternoons off, etc. Thanks.
Guest kosmo14
I will have to let one of the 1rst years answer this as we had a totally different schedule in year 1 & 2. Ours consisted of approx. classes from 8:30- 4:00 M-F. Lots of fun. It is much better now.
Guest drfunkmd03
So i thought i'd make my triumphant return to the message board by posting something useful. here ya go: 1ST YEAR (for class of '07) Term 1: M: 8:30-12:30 Biochem, Physiology, Histology, Professional Skills (1 hr each) T: 8:30 - 11:30 Anatomy (1hr lecture, 2 hr lab) W: 8:30 - 10:30 Biochem, Physiology (1 hr each) 10:30 - 12:30 Histology (brutal) Th: 8:30 - 10:30 History of med/critcial thinking (sleep in time) 10:30 - 12:30 Anatomy (usually embryology and review lab) Fr: 8:30 - 10:30 Biochem, physiology (1 hr each) 10:30 - 12:30 Lifecycles (the weekend starts early) Term 2: M: 8:30 - 12:30 Biochem, physiology, histology, professional skills (1hr each) T: 8:30 - 10:30 Neuroanatomy (1hr lect, 1hr clinical) 10:30 - 12:30 Anatomy (usually embryology and review lab) W: 8:30 - 10:30 Immunology, physiology (1hr each) 10:30 - 12:30 Lifecycles (zzzzzzzzzzz) Th: 8:30 - 9:30 Neuroanatomy (lecture) 9:30 - 12:30 Anatomy (lecture and lab) Fr: 8:30 - 10:30 Biochem, physiology (1 hr each) 10:30 - 12:30 Histology (zzzzzz, or early weekend) *We had "professional skills" (the best class in the entire world) 1 afternoon a week (1:30 - 4:30) in the hospital, clinics etc... *The 1st year schedule is the most amazingly slack schedule I have ever seen in my life. ENJOY IT! HAVE FUN! YOU WILL HAVE AMPLE TIME TO DO SO AND STILL KICK ASS ON THE EXAMS! *Immunology will probably change for the class of '08 because the 1 hr a week of class was the biggest gongshow ever. Guest dddd
Sounds like there's a lot of spare time in first year, sweet. What about second year, is it a lot different then? Thanks.
Guest kosmo14
Spare time in second year, not a chance. Our schedule went like this: Monday 8-10 Clinical 10:30-12:30 Systems 1:30-3:30 Micro Tuesday 8-10 Clinical 10:30-12:30 Systems 1:30-2:30 Pharmacology 2:30-4:00 Pathology Wednesday 8-10 Clinical 10:30-11:30 Genetics (a good skipper) 11:30-12:30 Pathology 1:30-2:30 Micro Off early Thursday 8-10 Clinical 10:30-12:30 Systems 1:30-2:30 Pharmacology 2:30-4:00 Pathology Friday 8-10 Clinical 10:30-12:30 Systems Finally an afternoon off the way it should be. The only thing that keeps you going (other than the enormous debt you have already accumulated) is Clinical (sometimes depending on your rotation) and the odd system that is interesting. The worst time is when clinical ends up being lecture, and the system you are taking is horrible.
Guest dddd
Thanks for the info. Why is there a change in the schedule from before, is it because of the accreditation issue?
