Guest InuvikGirl
I’m a 1st year med student at the University of Ottawa. I am interested in doing some 10-20 hour electives/observerships in Calgary this summer. I will be registered with my school for the summer session. Does anyone know if there are other procedures besides contacting individual departments/physicians that I need to take care of? I’ve heard something about being registered with the college. Thanks InuvikGirl
Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, No matter what the province, you need to have insurance coverage which will extend to cover you while working in Alberta. If there are specific preceptors with whom you would like to work you can contact them directly, but many may refer you to the Undergraduate Medical Education Office through which you might need to be registered to complete an official elective and to ensure that insurance coverage is not an issue. Cheers, Kirsteen
