Vallinar
I've read somewhere that Uof T just uses the MCAT as a flag and looks to see if you make the cutoff and then doesn't look at MCAT anymore.... si this true? or does having a better MCAT increase your chance of acceptance? I know UWo the higher the MCAT and GPA the better the chances becuase each is worth 25 or something... but what about for Queen's do they use the MCAT as flag only or does the goodness of your score help you past the cuitoff? Kyleh
Pretty sure it is just used as a flag.
Dante
Queens: meet the cutoffs, get an interview, and mcat AND gpa are thrown out once you meet cutoff.... so it's make or break... don't need anything above the cuts. UofT: just a flag Western: like you said, the higher the better.
Vallinar
do you know if uwo looks at the whole MCAT or just the VR and WS? also do you know if the calculate the /25 marks for the MCAT separatly for SWOMEN and non-SWOMEN b/c the cutoffs are different for a SWOMEN. thanks
Vallinar
I jsut read in the Uof T faq that Uof T does 60% academic, 20 non-academic and 20 for interview when determining offers.... so if the <MCAT is just used as a flag, does that mean that the GPA holds the most weighting in determining offers of admission post -interview? toffeetree
i've heard that the mcat score doesn't really matter as long as you make the cutoff (e.g. not much difference between 35 and 38). but if you had a 40+ or something, that is a score that any med school would take into consideration . NorthernDude
I emailed someone in the admissions office at U of T and they said that although traditionally they only use the MCAT as a flag, last year they started using it more as a cutoff, as they received so many more applications than previous years. Basically if your GPA is lower, they want to see higher MCATs, and vice versa. I'm hoping the applications are down this year (though I doubt it...) as it'll be better for all of us.
