hkmedbound
Just out of curiosity... Has anyone else experienced extreemly sporadic scores? For example, my last two practice MCAT's have been 38 and 28! Does not help the pre-test day anxiety.
Futuremedstudent?
in my past practice I definitely had scores all over the map but maybe I wasn't timing myself properly. I remember getting a 12 once on the VR and than getting an 8 the next time. One of my practice ones was 36 and then I got a 30 on test day so it's very hard to say. hkmedbound
yea, i hear ya. VR seems to fluctuate the most for me (anywhere between a 13 and 7!)... just have to nail the higher numbers on test day i guess. cheers.
Futuremedstudent?
I found my problem with the VR was not a lack of understanding but a lack of time. On test day I totally ran out of time and just started filling in random circles
Jamer
Mine fluctuated from a 41 to 32. I swear Kaplan used an arbitrary grading scheme. AAMC tests should be more stable and they more accurately represent what you'll see test day. For the most part, Kaplan's tests are too hard and thus the scale is fudged. For the most part, Kaplan's tests are too hard and thus the scale is fudged. i do agree that the Kaplan marking curve is way off... when you get 30/40 on a VR on one test and score an 8, then 30/40 on another and score 11, you know something isn't quite right. AAMC FLs seem to be more on the ball, however the questions/passages seem to be much simpler. are you writing the MCAT this summer? cheers. Jamer
I found the actual MCAT to be much more like the AAMC exams--that is, the passages are easier and the scale is harder. I wrote last summer.
Craig-oy
So the AAMC tests are 35.00 each? thats crazy!
medisforme
i also think some part is played by the subject matter of the VR passages. For myself, i find the psychology based ones rather difficult, but can usually fly through anything based on history or animals/plants. So on test day, i think part of it is luck if the topics/subjects you find easy are on the mcat.
