Hackintosh
does it matter which US school you graduate from when it comes to having opportunities to move further in your career? do more difficult schools prepare you better?
schnauzr
Yeah, I had the same question before applying this year. The consensus on SDN forum is that, no, it really doesn't matter which US medical school you graduate from. It's your performance at your medical school that will determine your career as opposed to which school it is. But I've been thinking that it sort of depends on what you want in your medical career. As you stated, "opportunities to move further" - this could mean different things for different people. Some people might be thinking of the more lucrative specialities such as dermatology, some might be thinking of rural medicine, some family practice, some academic career with research and teaching, etc. In my opinion, some schools will provide more research opportunities/networking than others. But then again, even taking into account what you want to do in your career, the bottomline is that it doesn't matter. You could do anything you want as long as you have great board exam scores and some research experience.
