newton13
Does anyone know how most US schools calculate GPAs? What I'm interested in knowing is if they will look favourably on increasing trends. My cGPA is average at best, but my last few years hover around the 3.90-3.96 range. Does that help get an interview?
deathvvv
define average, also, US schools generally looks at your CGPA, and your BCPM (bio, chem, physics, math) GPA. Although a strong upward trend is favorable but is no means as important as the two aforementioned (some adcoms do not look at trends before making a decision)
c17h
Your AMCAS GPAs (BCPM GPA and overall GPA) may be slightly different than your OMSAS GPA and also slightly different from the GPA at your institution. See http://www.premed101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20901 or the AMCAS instruction manual for more information on how they calculate your GPA. Also, AMCAS uses "credit hours", where courses with labs are weighted slightly more than non-lab courses. It won't make a huge difference, but my GPA did go up by 0.02 thanks to this. IMO, and as deathvvv said, they would prefer upward trends but your actual GPA value will be much more important than the trends.
