spoudaios
Hey guys, A few questions: After you get an MD degree from Ireland: 1>. What do you do? Do you go back straight to Canada to apply for residency? or do you apply to residency in Canada right before you complete your degree? or do you apply to Irish residency instead? 2>. If you do not want to come back to Canada and want to stay and work in Ireland instead, what are the chances of this? How do the MDs there get paid Vs. Canada and US? Sarah_2020
Heres some info from what I researched of IMG. If you plan on doing your residency in Canada, keep in mind that it is extremely difficult to land a spot (including family meds - with around 2000 Img applying for family - only about 200 get in) regardless if you have amazing qualifying exams - a cdn applicant will always get in before the IMG. Check out the CARMS website for stats (very helpful and shocking) Secondly, as an IMG you have a MUCH better chance of obtaining a US residency so that is always one option - as long as you dont mind living in the states - bc again it will difficult to come back to canada to practice. So International med schools is definitely an option - dont get me wrong - especially if you plan on doing residency in US. Best of luck
