Doc_of_Day
Are we allowed to shadow doctors in Ontario hospitals(esp: Toronto/Hamilton) as premed volunteers ? I heard that such "shadowing" are not considered volunteer positions but has to be taken up as a paid formal job... I have heard my friends in US talk about their experience seeing a surgery etc but do we have such chances in Ontario...what should one do to get such a position..? thehumanmacbook
yes and no. It's hard these days to find a doc who will allow it, because of various problems with patient privacy and confidentiality (it has been debated here before) but if you're WORKING (not just "shadowing") I think it's a more presentable reason. That being said, there have been doctors who have allowed individuals to shadow them while they work. I would suggest asking if you're interested and present a clear idea to him/her to why and how you will be shadowing.
