This is my first time applying to medical schools so I'd appreciate any advice!!!! I don't know what schools I should apply to and if my stats are competitive enough and if I should retake my MCAT!

Here's a very brief summary:

GPA: ~3.8

MCAT: 1st 5V 10P 10B (25S);

2nd 8V 12P 11B (31 no writing)

Volunteers:

Children hospital: 3 years ~300 hrs

Local hospital: 2 years ~100 hrs

Senior residence: 5 years ~350 hrs

SPCA volunteer: 1 yr ~100 hrs

Leadership:

Club president 1yr. Club General Officer 1 yr. Club Social coordinator 1 yr.

Organized fundraiser for Canada World Youth non-profit organization 1 yr.

Employment:

Part-time tutor: 2 yrs

Part-time retailer 2 yrs

Research & publications:

Poster in conference proceeding at Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology.

Oral presentation & poster in conference proceeding.

Cancer Research centre 1yr.

Centre of Infectious Disease 4 months.

Psychological research at hospital 2 month in summer.

Physical activity:

Danced for 9 yrs (advanced level)

Should I apply for American schools? Do my stats stand a chance?

Would it matter that I took my MCAT twice and should I retake it???

the 8 might be a problem..but everything else looks good

apply early and VERY broad...its ur 1ist time..spend the big bucks to catch an MD acceptance...anywhere

..there are many schools and posted aorund here...do your search (avoid state schools)

add 3-4 good DO schools..if u dont wanna

spend another 2 yrs re applying again (redoing the mcat etc)
