bak1
I was wondering whether students in the English stream ever get a chance to interact with patients in French? I did much of my education before high school in French so it's my second language. Would be great to brush up on the French again
goingplaid
Is it part of our curriculum? No Can it be done? Yes These are the two ways that come to mind: 1. CSL, Community Service Learning, consist of 30 hours of volunteering at a locating in Ottawa or the surrounding area. You pick the location, and so you can pick a bilingual placement 2. You can choose to do electives at Montfort, the french hospital, and get more exposure that way. GP

NSJ
Also, you might be on an elective or in clinic and you may get a french speaking patient come in. Most of these cases, there's someone where (preceptor, nurse, social worker, etc.) who will know french though. On a side note, if you are interested in learning French, uOttawa offers free french language courses for medical students.
Belle_MD
If you're working or training in health care in ottawa you will most certainly get a French speaking patient! But if you don't speak French there is always someone to help!
