how do american universities treat 2nd degrees?

However, with that said, you should realize that most schools in the US look at your application more "holistically." That is, if you screw up your first degree but do significantly better on the second degree then it is to your advantage. Schools will see grades from both degrees and your GPA will be an average of the two but they may be more lenient on you if they see an upward trend.

Hi there,

I do suggest that you call the specific schools, since some of them consider a second degree the equivalent of graduate school. These schools will not count the second degree GPA. I called up those schools I am applying to, and that was surprising to me!
