  1. Hi guys, I was told a couple weeks ago that in Ontario, the mean gross billings for neurologists is actually lower than that of family doctors. I was quite surprised by this, and since I'm very interested in neurology as a profession I just wanted to see if I could get some clarification about how much they actually make. Thanks so much, scared
  2. Hi guys just wanted to inquire about my chances.. I graduated in 2014 and I'm taking this year to strengthen my ECs. I'd like to know my chances for the Ontario Schools (other than Northern): GPA: Mac: 3.85 UofT/Ottawa: 3.94 Queens/Western: 3.97 MCAT: PS 12 / VR 11 / BS 12 ECs: -2.5 years as a volunteer Research Assistant in a Neuro Lab. Completed a thesis, and have a conference presentation. I would estimate that I put in over 1200 hours here. -1 year volunteer on a crisis hotline -1 year volunteering as a 1 on 1 mentor with children with autism - 3 years Private Tutor - grade 8 Piano RCM - 1 year volunteering at a residential treatment addiction clinic ( I did a tiny bit of research, but I also welcomed incoming clients and led a few teaching sessions) - 6 months hospital volunteer - 2 years of work experience as a data entry clerk at a health lab I'd really like some tips to bolster my ECs if possible. Thank you guys so much!!
  3. Really confused over here. Can't decide what I want to do with my life yet, but I'm thinking about giving medicine a shot. I'd really appreciate any guidance. I just finished my undergrad this summer but I did not apply this cycle. I just couldn't commit to it. Region: Toronto cGPA: 3.85 UofT wGPA: 3.94 Ottawa GPA: 3.94 Last two years: 3.97 Best two years: 3.97 MCAT: 12 PS / 11 VR / 12 BS Extra-curriculars (This is where I think i'm the weakest) 2 years hospital volunteering (5 years ago though..) Grade 7 Piano 2 years entering doctor requisition forms in a medical lab (I really had to do this for the money, but I hope that since it was in a medical lab it might look good) Crisis line volunteer 2 labs. Poured my heart and soul into one of my labs. Undergraduate thesis + work totaling 1500+ hours in less than 2 years there. Potential for publication is there but I'm not banking on anything. I really think I need some guidance as to what other extra-curriculars I need to get. I really think that is what's going to nail me. I played the game wrong. I don't think I should have heavily committed to 1-2 things at the expense of other experiences.. I'd REALLY appreciate any input as to what I should do to improve my app for next September.
  4. Hey guys, I'm an extremely discouraged student that would like some answers and to know if I have any chance at med or should just something else. GPA after 3rd year (expected) 3.85. (3.74, 3.82, 4.00) Horrible ECs: One volunteer research position (3 months), also held a job for a year and a half. I had hospital volunteer experience near the end of high school.. can i count that? (i was 17 at the time). MCAT: Writing this summer. If I applied during the beginning of 4th year, would med schools use my 4th year GPA and any ECs I've obtained since applying in their decision? If not, is there any sense in me applying? I honestly feel like I've wasted so much time and it hurts me to the core even thinking about med schools now. If it means anything, I'm SURE i can get a 4.0 in 4th year.
