Requirements To Do A Fellowship In Usa

Hi,

I am a medical student from Québec. I would like to pursue a residency (hopefully in anesthesia!) in Canada, and I would like to know what are the requirements to be accepted for a fellowship in the USA. I heard that I can do the USMLE2 during the same time as the LMCC? Do I ever have to pass USMLE1? Do I have to do other exams? How do I register to the USMLE? Thanks everyone!!!!!

From what I understand, it is very program and state dependent.

For some states, you do not need to take the USMLE to do a fellowship. For instance, states such as Illinois will take your LMCC 1 and 2 results for the approval of your Illinois state medical license.

Where the USMLE does make a difference is the programs/states that require the step scores as part of their application process, state licensing board approval process, and H1-B visa approval process. 

Check the state board regulations, and programs to know what you really need.
