It seems like lots of people do rural FM electives, and I'm sure those aren't through UBC? So what's the point in doing those then, if you aren't gonna get a LOR? UBC has A LOT of rural family med programs. Each will have associated physicians that supervise the residents and are therefore affiliated. Here's the IMG list from carms: Coastal - IMG Stream for IMG Kamloops - IMG Stream for IMG Kootenay Boundary - IMG Stream for IMG Prince George - IMG Stream for IMG Rural Fort St. John - IMG Stream for IMG Rural Okanagan - IMG Stream for IMG Surrey-South Fraser - IMG Stream for IMG Vancouver - St. Paul's - IMG Stream for IMG Vancouver Fraser - IMG Stream for IMG Vancouver Island - Strathcona - IMG Stream for IMG Victoria - IMG Stream for IMG Obviously there are familiy docs who do their own thing and don't have residents and are not affiliated with UBC all over the province, even in downtown vancouver. But you have to go through the portal to do an affiliated elective. An unaffiliated BC elective would be better than nothing, but if you do, I would highly suggest you do a medical-school affiliated elective in Canada somewhere else (Calgary/Ontario etc) so you can demonstrate good performance in an academic situation, as well as a dedication to BC.
