B.Madison
Hi! I am an in province student (BC), currently at McGill University. I am in my third year here, majoring in Anatomy & Cell Biology. I applied to UBC medical school this summer, for the 2017/2018 cycle (submitted Sept. 15th) 4.0 GPA, by UBC's translation 92% 521 on the MCAT (132 Phys/Chem, 131 Bio, 129 in Psych and CARS) My extracurriculars include a long term restaurant job (Since 2013), moving up from hostessing/head hostessing to serving this summer. I have been on two overseas volunteer trips (childcare in Costa Rica and home building in Mexico) I have been a mentor/homework helper in a mentorship program with elementary school children for one year (and continuing) I job shadowed a physician for 3 months this summer I played soccer for 4 years throughout high school until I suffered an injury. I have received one award, for achieving grades in the top 5% of our Science Faculty. I'm wondering if anyone could give me insight on what my chances are of 1. receiving an interview, and 2. getting an admissions offer. I know my extracurriculars are a bit weak, and I have since taken on an executive position and done some more volunteering, which will not count for this cycle, but will aid my NAQ if I must apply again next year. I am also wondering, since I am applying in third year, are my chances lower? Thanks in advance
JohnGrisham
Your GPA/MCAT are great, but NAQ is a bit light. Will be hard to say if you get an interview, I would keep working on your non-academics this year and next year. You have lots of time to keep improving your application over the years.
