Guest LobusDexter
I've tried my best to make myself look pretty to medical schools. The problem: in my younger years university I didn't do well at all, mainly with low B's, a lot of C's, some D's, and a few F's - I think I left with a 2.48 GPA on the 4.0 scale. Since then I've returned to university and raised that GPA to 3.0; completed another degree through the Canadian military college with a 3.6 GPA; working with the Canadian Forces for a few years; and am planning on making a start at, or completing, a Master's degree during the next couple of years left of my contract. Haven't done the MCAT yet, but I will. Do you think I've prettied myself up well enough to get me into a Canadian Medical school? Any opinion is great. Thanks. Guest BCSarah
No one can say for sure until all the applications are in - depends what the average GPA is. What I CAN tell you is that I was in a similar position - really bad first two years at University. But by showing such improvement you give yourself credit, and add authenticity to your focus on med school (and you went miles beyond me in your efforts to make up for a bad couple of years). Work your butt off for the MCAT and hope for the best. I had a 22% on my transcript :x and here I am.. somehow! GOOD LUCK!

Guest seedstrike
Hi LobusDexter, When it comes to Queen's, they don't care how many F's or D's you got as long as you make the GPA criteria. As long as you are above the cutoffs for this year (yet to be established) in your last two years, you should be fine. Good luck
Guest GundamDX
I always admire people who have the determination to "fix themselves" up in order to get into med school since it's a grueling experience! I have a friend who turns 30 this year and he's in a similiar boat... man o man does he try hard. I hope he gets in. In fact if it's down to me or him I'll rahter have him get in than me. I want to have an excuse to do some travelling so don't worry I think you are on your way and people appreciate your determination and effort ! Guest kahone
'course, the fixing part only does you good IFF you make those cuts...it's really that simple. Been fixing for 7 years! No matter how many papers I publish, awards I win, years teaching (ironically, teaching first year med students!) as a grad student, so long as the MCAT cut hangs out at 32...no interview, but of you DO make the GPA and MCAT cut, THEN you get to shine your PIF answers and interview, but Queen's can be very "forgiving" of the clunkers on a transcript. That's when all the work can pay off HUGE K

Guest Nops
Hey LD, Queen's seems to look favorably on Military applicants ATM. There are one or two MOTP students and at least 4 MMTP students enrolled.
