Do I even have a chance as an IP applicant to MUN

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm looking for some advice on if I even hold a chance as an IP applicant to MUN?

Writing the MCAT and CASPER soon.

Background: Born in NL. Had left to Alberta for a year but came back and did my grade school here. PharmD background. Completed a while ago.

Calculated average from MUN transcripts with repeated courses averaged: ~75%

EC: essentially involve A Ton of medical exposure and work in high school. Slowed down a bit when joining university and then have picked up again.

Have been in leadership positions back to back in the Pharm years through the school. Working with a community initiative that I’ve really enjoyed and focuses on immigrants to Canada. Director of a committee in an NGO after prior work in the same for some time. Have been working in a community pharmacy for many years. 1000+ hours. Prior to that I worked in community care, long term care and hospital roles. Physician shadowing to get an idea of what the life is like further. Around 50 hours combined in ER and psych units. Just starting off a position in CRC. Was a previous volunteer with them but had to stop because of covid. Plus around 60 research hours. Many placements in clinical rotations thus far.

Hoping to offset the gpa with the mcat as it is understandably low. Don’t really know if the committees will consider the course difficulty and background program.

Thanks for the help and advice

The best person to ask this to is the admissions office.

You should call them and set up a meeting where you discuss your application prospects. They offer these sessions free of charge and put you in contact with someone from the office who will answer your questions and be honest with you.

Most of the people here will at best provide guesses as they are not involved with the admission process.

Best of luck.

Hey, thanks for the response! I tried to set up an appointment and talked to them over the phone. Unfortunately, they said they couldn't comment on the GPA or tell me if I was competitive. I've heard they're really nice and was hoping they would be able to help so I had set up the appointment. I guess I'll have to apply and see :/

I’ve seen people on this forum get in with a similar GPA and high MCAT. So if you are able to do well on the MCAT and casper, I’d say you should have a chance for an interview with your experience. I’m definitely not an expert, but I just got accepted with a low MCAT (490’s) and high GPA as an IP student on my first try, so they definitely aren’t looking for a perfect applicant stat wise!

Thank you VERY MUCH for alleviating some stress for me! I really appreciate it.
