MEDlove444 Posted February 25 Report Share Posted February 25 Hello everyone ! I am hesitant to choose the McGill campus between Mtl and the Outaouais. If there are medical students who could give me advice or pros and cons (Mtl vs Outaouais)... as a new student who will live alone, especially when it comes to the cost of living in Mtl vs Outaouais and networking opportunities, I guess Mtl is a big city, there are more students and also more opportunities? but I am also worried about all the medschool courses in English and team projects ? As I did all my studies spent in French. Thanks J’hésite à choisir le campus de McGill entre Mtl et l’Outaouais. S’il y a des étudiants en médecine qui pourraient me donner des conseils ou des avantages et des inconvénients (Mtl vs Outaouais)... en tant que nouvel étudiant qui vivra seul, surtout en ce qui concerne le coût de la vie à Mtl vs Outaouais et les possibilités de réseautage, je suppose que Mtl est une grande ville, il y a plus d’étudiants et aussi plus de possibilités? mais je m’inquiète aussi de tous les cours de medschool en anglais et des projets d’équipe ? verycaffeinated Posted February 25 Report Share Posted February 25 Congrats on the interview! I can only speak about the Montreal campus since I have very limited exposure to Campus Outaouais. If your biggest concern about the MTL campus is the fact that the curriculum is delivered in English, it might reassure you to know that you can write your exams in French even if you're placed in the MTL campus! You can also submit written assignments in French. MTL students are also given access to the Campus Outaouais (CO) course materials on MyCourses (McGill's educational platform for learning materials) -- this means that if ever you have difficulty understanding a slide deck, you can access the CO course materials and see how that specific lecture was delivered in French (last time I checked, we also have access to their lecture recordings that are delivered in French). At the end of the day, both campuses go through the same material, and from my understanding, we take the same test at the end of each block. Le milieu est très uni et vous ne vous sentirez pas aussi seul que dans la grande cohorte de MTL. Les étudiants de M3-M4 sont très accessibles et serviables, et il est très facile de participer à leurs recherches et/ou à leurs groupes. Le corps professoral est également extraordinaire et prêt à en faire un peu plus pour notre campus qui est relativement petit. Le personnel vous connaît par votre nom et est prêt à vous aider. Par exemple, il y a une équipe administrative spécialisée qui (jusqu'à présent) a un taux de réussite de 100 % dans le jumelage d'étudiants avec des projets de recherche dans la région. En termes d'emplacement, Gatineau est évidemment plus petite que Montréal, mais Ottawa est littéralement à 7 minutes en voiture du campus. Can give the Outaouais perspective myself. The environment is very close knit and you will not feel as lonely as one might in the large cohort in MTL. Upperclassmen are very approachable and helpful, very easy to get into their research/groups. Faculty here is also amazing and willing to go the extra mile for our relatively small campus. Staff know you by name and are eager to be of use. For instance, there is a dedicated admin team that (so far) has a 100% success rate (10+ students) of matching students into research projects in the area. In terms of location, Gatineau is obviously smaller than Montreal, but Ottawa is literally a 7m drive from campus. I’d recommend it over Montreal for a better learning experience. J'espère que ça ne nuit pas trop à mes chances d'avoir une admission puisqu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de places, mais j'imagine que la majorité des gens mettent Montréal en premier! Mes relevés de notes sont disparus de ma liste de vérification, donc je m'attends à un refus finalement, mais on se reprend l'an prochain si c'est le cas!
