DrOzuma
Hello everyone, I am a current 4th year med student here in canada. Studying for MCCQE1 right now with Uworld Qbank and of course with MCC prep as well (dont know which ones i will buy however). I was thinking that if there was that much overlap between step 2 and MCCQE1 would it be possible to write step 2 without having step 1? Just a general question, I think it would be nice to have the option of working in the states in the future so I should probably do these exams :)
1D7
I haven't heard of a Canadian doing this, but Americans can write Step 2 without Step 1. That said, it costs money to write these exams. If you have family ties or you're going to be a specialist with a tight-ish job market it makes sense, less so in other situations.
burntcheese
I took Step 1 last year and have friends at US med schools. Most say that step1 studying prepares to you very well for step 2 and provides a foundation for it. Since step 1 is P/F you may as well just take step 1 if you are going to study for step 2 anyways. Im planning on taking MCC end of April and then step 2 a couple of weeks after that.
