So, now that I have an interview this topic is of particular interest. WRT Ontario schools, recall that the Liberals under McGuinty made an election promise to increase med school spots. Are they planning on sticking to it? Any word on this?

Latest from UWO is that there are no firm plans and "only Dalton knows"...however, the five deans have gotten together and have decided that they are NOT going to take any more students unless there is increased government funding coming with them... The universities have gotten NO additional $$ with the last increases in students (from 103 to 133 at UWO) and things are stretched to the limit. If there is no additional money, the quality of education available for everyone is going to suffer. We already have 'small' groups that are >30 people and are trying to learn clinical skills in groups as large as 10...(pretty hard to even see the newborn over your classmates let alone learn how to do a proper newborn exam in those circumstances...)

The chances of Dalton having spare $$ to send with more students are pretty much nil at this point with the size of the deficit. And, increasing the number of med school seats is not going to give him any kind of political advantage anyway...(what he is really after, let's face it). Any increase in seast will not result in an increase in physicians for minimum 6-7 years...and that is long after his term is up. If he is smart, he will increases the number of residency spots.

Yeah, unfortunately electing the liberals was pretty much a matter of making sure the much worse alternative (continuation of a conservative government) didn't occur.

But they didn't really seem to have a viable plan, did they?
