to people who were accepted at multiple univs

Hello,,, i was just wondering if the people who have been accepted somewhere but also waitlisted at another univ will generally wait to see if their name is activated off the waitlist or will they just accept their offer and pull themselves off the waitlist of the other univ? i'm not sure if people are automatically pulled off the waitlist if they accept the offer at one univ,
