A Message to Everyone

Dear Applicants and Med school hopefuls:

 

For those of you who did not gain acceptance to med school, please do not feel too badly. I have just finished my first year at an Ontario Med school, and I don't know how I will face the nightmare next year.

 

Sometimes it seems that medicine is the one and only thing that will fulfill one's life with joy happiness and satisfaction. This is what I thought when I applied. I was wrong, dead wrong, the stress of the work is enough to kill the fittest of the fittest. The backstabbing and snobbery of med students constantly trying to flex their intellectual muscles makes me seasick. The cliques and highschool'esque groups of brats leaves me wishing I was dead. Oh and back to the work, forget about a life despite what these folks here tell you, I'm one of you, I'm no superbrain and I can say that you will not leave your books and still only just barely survive.

 

Is medicine the answer, NO it is not. Take a rejection as a blessing, I have actually held other med students as they cried because the pressure was getting to be too much. I have even stayed on the phone all night with someone who going to kill themselves because they could not take another day of the torture.

 

Please don't feel bad for not getting accepted, I as many wish we had gotten rejection letters. Now we slave and marter ourselves for what? a lousy job where the patients don't give a rats ass about you and treat you like garbage, a gov't that wants to drop you down to half the salary of yesterday and the public who screams in support of the gov't and anger towards Doctors who "steal" their hard earned tax dollars (as quoted in the Toronto Star).

 

Just be careful what you wish for people, you may just get it.
