Wow...NOSM is really on the ball!

I am Mar. 18 at 10:30 (Thunder Bay).

I am going to call them tomorrow just to see if they have anyone who wants to switch... I am flying from Alberta and I will already be in Ontario on the weekend of April 1/2...

I too am in T.Bay, but would love to switch to Sudbury.

This one is really going to up the cost of interview attendance. I grew up outside of sudbury, and still have ties there so it would be much cheaper (a 5 hour drive and free lodging/food)....anyhow, guess i have a decision to make now, and some scrounging for funds.

Hey guys!

In my email it says that you can NOT change your location or time. I too want to go to Sudbury, because I interviewed in Thunder Bay last year. I am from BC and would have liked to check out the other campus. You think they would have done that for applicants this year, especially if you aren't from the area. I guess they don't have time to through and see where people interviewed last year etc.

oh well

hi there...

i've never been to a med school interview. could someone tell me how long the NOSM interviews are? i just moved to alberta from ontario to start a job (back up plan in action!), and am trying to book flights for the weekend of march 18/19th. my interview is on the sunday at 10:30. are interviews going to take a full day, or can i book a flight back to alberta leaving 3:20 in the afternoon?

thanks!

Hi Everyone!

I've been a long time reader- but this is my first post!

I am from Thunder Bay, and I'm interviewing here on March 18. My interview is at the Port Arthur Health Center (is this the location for everyone?) I also have interviews at other school in southern Ontario, and Manitoba- so I know what it's like to not know where you're going- and having to pick hotels that are nice and close. This forum has been really helpful to me- so I'm so excited that I get to offer some advice about T. Bay! Note that if your int. is at the Port Arthur Health Center- this is not on campus- it's about 10-15 minutes away by car. I wouldn't pick anything by the airport, or in the area of Arthur St- just because they are quite far from campus and my Court St. interview site. Here are some better picks:

- Travelodge Thunder Bay at 450 Memorial Ave.

It's sort of near campus (5 minute drive) and Court St. (5-10min drive).

- Econolodge at 686 Memorial Ave

It's a lot more budget than Travelodge- and really not that pretty- but also quite close to campus Court St

- Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel Suites at 17 North Cumberland St.

This is a nicer place that's really quite close to Court St (you prob. could walk if you wanted to- but I wouldn't suggest it at night) but a bit further from campus. It's also in the heart of downtown- a block or two away from our charity casino, some really nice restaurants (ie. the Prospector, Porto Divino etc) and a great view of Lake Superior.

That's all I can really think of- but if you have somewhere else in mind- you can post and I'll do my best to check it out for you. Note that I've never stayed in these places- so I'm only recommending based on location. Some other hotels (ie. on the Highway, or Sibley Rd. etc are REALLY far away from town- and you don't want to stay there. Good luck everyone!

Linda

Hey Popcorn girl,

Although our interviews are not on Campus I remember last year that we were suppose to meet there and then from there a bus took us to the interview site.

I did not stay on campus although I do believe a few did.

I stayed in a hotel now that I can't remember the name to. Don't worry everything is really close. i made sure that the hotel I stayed in had a shuttle bus. There was an indoor swimming pool, bar, and liquor store attached...maybe someone from there could remind me of the name. Anyways...it was very very quiet...I was on the top floor.

I'll try to find out for you.

lolaloo,

I often booked rooms at the travelway inn (across the road from science north and just down the road from the university) many times for work..and from what i remember, its quite reasonable.. plus, its a nice place.

if money is an issue, do an online search for sudbury hotels. most have an 800 number and shop around for the best deal. also tell them you are down with Laurentian- maybe they can give you the corporate rates. Many nice-ish enough hotels... ramada inn.. holiday inn.. comfort inn.. travelway inn (real close) travellodge (also nice and close).. and im sure there are others.. maybe stay with bigger 'names' to avoid a fiasco!

sudbury is not that big.. most of those hotels are a five-ten minute drive from the university... (try stick to the south end.. if possible.. new sudbury is a little further but still only a short drive... and stay away from Flour mill area! lol)

Hey Guys,

I am planning to be one of the NOSM students who are there to meet & greet the applicants prior to the interviews. I live in an appartment about 5 minutes from the school...if anybody is really in a financial bind, I have space for two applicants for the weekend. I could also hook you up with other students who would like to meet some of the applicants during the interview weekend.

Nacho,

Hahaha...I'll be the girl that is so nervous her name won't come out right. It is Lindsay, by the way, so I don't have to go around introducing myself as fingerscrossed06.

Hi Kidha, sounds like you stayed at the Airlane or Valhalla. Do any of those names sound familiar?

I understood that the school was going to send out names of contacts that are willing to offer a place to crash, in effort to cut down on travelling students expenses. Axolotl, did they decided against doing that?
