Iincreasing the number of students in med school at UBC

I just wanted to know hoew the increase in the amount of applicants in the ubc med school is going to affect the applicant. Also when is it going to happen.

UBC is increasing its admission number to 200 for the upcoming 2004 academic winter session (24 for the northern medical program, 24 for the island program, and 152 for the vancouver-fraser program).

 

The application process is a little different this year, with more applicants that are applying, more admission spaces (200), and a larger interview pool (~500). Someone else is probably better off than me trying to explain the differences. All I know is that some of my friends applied last year and didnt get an interview while this year with the same application, got one this year with essentially the same application.

The eventual goal is 256 spaces by 2010 (192 in VFMP, and 32 each in IMP and NMP).

Anyone know how this will affect the number of seats available for OOP? Thanks!

The OOP spaces will probably not increase by much. Apparently this year there are 5 OOP seats, and I wouldn't expect it to go too much higher than that (maybe 7-10 by the final expansion?)
