Guest LestatZinnie
www.caribbeanmedicine.com/article9.htm now if you're a medical specialist working in a hospital it's a different story (if you can stand 4-8 yrs more school...i know i can't @@). however if you're a GP with a private clinic, it's no more lucrative (in fact in many cases a lot less) than being a general dentist with your own clinic. Just a consideration for those debating medicine vs. dentistry for the $$ factor. but then...we know that most people consider medicine (or dent) because they love helping people, dont we?? Guest UWOMED2005
They better choose meds for reasons other than $$ - because you're right. General practioning dentistry, where practitioners set their own fees, tends to be better for the "bling bling" than general practitioning medicine. Plus you don't have to do the two years of residency. As for medical specialties, it depends on what you go into. But don't forget you're losing many more prime earning years by doing a residency program, so in pure financial terms specializing is not always worth it. And you never know what might happen before you finish. . . I have some pretty critically ill patients younger than the 5th year residents. If your only reason to be in medicine was the $$, it would be a shame to go to all that work only to realize you'll never get the payout you expected from it. . . Do medicine if you love it.
