The Law
Who is familliar with NSERC? What is it all about... I really don't know much about it, but I hear that it can help set you up with a research opportunity/scholarship? I'm currently in my second year and am really interested in doing research. I plan on approaching a few profs about it, but also heard about NSERC and wanted to get more info on it. Thanks for your input!
Kirsteen
Hi there, Here's a link to the student page on the NSERC website: http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/sf_e.asp?nav=sfnav&lbi=pg That should help to get you started. Cheers, Kirsteen
peachy
There has been quite a bit of discussion about this in the past. Keep in mind that the criteria and application process for NSERC undergraduate student research awards can be quite different at different schools. http://www.premed101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431 http://www.premed101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15643 http://www.premed101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15786 http://www.premed101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3458
KMC
Anyone know the details for an undergrad NSERC at U of T? I asked the undergraduate secretary in my department, but she says the info is on the NSERC website.

a41
Hi, I got a couple of USRA's under my belt. The most important step is finding a prof. If the prof isn't willing to take you on unless you get NSERC, I'd be a bit hesitant. After all, it isn't just padding for your resume, you will learn a lot of things and gain experiences/opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise. You would probably have a better time if you were working under a prof who wants to take you on.
