Alastriss
So lets say there are 3 people applying for a school that has a mean MCAT score of 35 (12 PS, 11 VR, 12 BS). If there is a person with a 38 (14 PS, 10 VR, 14 (12 PS, 11 VR, 12 BS), is he a stronger applicant (strictly from an MCAT perspective) than say a person with a score of a 36 (12 PS, 11VR, 13 BS)? Is it the composite score or the score of your individual categories that matters most? i can understand that getting a 8 in verbal may not be compensated for by 15 in PS and BS for example. Any thoughts?
Jochi1543
This is an extremely subjective situation. Case 1: The applicant with 14 BS 10 VR 14 PS has a WS score of T and the applicant with 12 PS 11 VR 13 BS has a WS of O. In this case, the first applicant is more likely to have an advantage because the WS is compensatory. Case 2: The applicant with the 14 BS 10 VR 14 PS is a History major. The applicant with the 12 PS 11 VR 13 BS is a Physics major. The first applicant is more likely to have an advantage because s/he was able to score higher on the science sections despite having a deficient science background.
