smood
I notice there is a CMG (Canadian medical grad) stream on the U of T Family medicine department website. Are american grads apart of this stream? Here are the 2 seemingly conflicting documents from Carms and U of T for residency spaces in family medicine. Carms: http://www.carms.ca/jsp/program.jsp?path=../jsp/../program_new/quota/qfammed UofT: http://dfcm.utoronto.ca/postgrad/general_information/candidates/pdf/application.pdf 88 versus 82 spaces although I'm not sure what year the first document pertains too. But the key is, in the latter document, are American grads a part of the CMG stream competing for those 82 spaces? Thanks!
KennethToronto
From what I've read, no, Canadian citizens who are graduates of a US medical school are *NOT* considered IMGs and thus match in CaRMS accordingly.

They said American med grads must apply to the IMG stream for residency???

Sounds like they thought American citizen from an American med school.
Alastriss
I thought LCME accredited = not img? is this not true?

The discrepancy in the numbers is because the CaRMS numbers are for the upcoming 2008 match and the UofT numbers are from the 2007 match. I would double check again with UofT because graduates of LCME accredited schools (all schools in Canada and I think all in the US) participate in the regular match. If you take a look at the eligibility requirements on the CaRMS website, it's pretty clear, so maybe the person who replied to you is misinformed. KennethToronto
I thought LCME accredited = not img? is this not true? I think that depends on the province. I know for Ontario that is the case.
Alastriss
OP, what i DO know is this: - Seems like US medical graduates were not classified under IMG for statistical purposes. - Posts in other areas of these forums from people who know a whole lot more than me suggest that Cdn PRs and citizens from US schools are not img, do forum search! - the % of those who matched to their program of choice was very good, not as good as canadian, but MUCH better than IMG. Close to CDNs than IMGs - so the situation isn't as grim as it may seem! don't worry
