Essay word limit

Is the 1200 word max strict or approximate (ie will they cut it off at 1200 words)? Mine is slightly over 1200 words, but less than 4 pages double spaced.

 

From the website:

 

The document must have a maximum of 1200 words (approximately 4 pages, double-spaced), be written in standard Arial (Helvetica) or Times New Roman (Serif) font at a 12-point size, and be double-spaced, with one inch (1") margins on standard Letter-sized (8.5" x 11") paper.

they have better things to do than count your words....

 

If you send them an 8-page letter then you might have a problem.

Stop stressing about it. As long as it fits 4 pages with the proper font and margins you're good.

given how it must be submitted as a pdf, they're likely just to just print off the essays for whomever reads 'em. Four pages is four pages.

i had emailed the faculty of med when i applied last year and they said not to stress about the word limit...in the end i think i went over by a little less than a hundred words

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't stressing...just wanted to make sure . I am around 50 words over and that's after cutting about 200 words. It would be difficult to cut another 50 if I had to.
