why do u think that omsas requires u to forfeit ALL others schools, including waitlists, after their jun2 date???

why can't u keep ur waitlists???? i know the states lets u do that.

and if that's the case, would u turn down a school that accepted u to have a chance at ur dream school which waitlsted u?

Because if everyone held onto their conditional acceptances while waiting for an opening at their preferred school, none of the waiting lists would move.

In the US, med schools have pretty variable applicant pools, and some schools offer acceptances much earlier than Ontario. In Ontario, there's a lot of overlap within the applicant pool. More importantly, if the waiting list didn't get kicked into motion in June, a whole lot of people would be waiting most of the summer for any acceptance because someone else couldn't appreciate the first acceptance and had to put everyone else's life on hold just in case a better school called.

Much like a high school student's back-up date for the prom, retaining a conditional acceptance for too long becomes insulting to the second-choice med school - so if you should be allowed to maintain a tentative acceptance, they should similarly be allowed to keep a tentative offer of admission.

On the plus side, some schools may be willing to give you an idea of where you stand on the waiting list if you let them know you would like to attend but may have to turn them down if they can't accept you before june 2. But odds are, it would be a gamble.

Hi there,

Just to clarify, the 2004 OMSAS date where provisional acceptances become firm and names are scratched from waitlists is July 2nd. :)

Cheers,

Kirsteen
