REL
I heard from a friend in 2nd yr Med that there's some textbooks that are helpful for explaining different residencies and specialties. She highly recommended "The Ultimate Guide to Choosing a Medical Specialty." I also heard of "Iserson's getting into a Residency." Both of these texts are geared towards American healthcare...And I know that there isn't much differences between specialties in the 2 countries but I would love to read similar ones that are aimed at our education system and healthcare. Would anyone have any suggestions or ones that they found helpful? Thanks

REL
Nice!!!! I love the attitude branch that requires mean personality to be a surgeon. I guess some stereotypes have some truth

I don't get why Dermatology and Radiology are under the category of those who aren't hardworking...especially since they're real competitive. NLengr
Probably because the generally decent hours and call. Derm more so than rads though.
noncestvrai
Yeah, this algorithm is way outdated or off... I'll let you figure the crazy specialties, it becomes evident quite rapidly once you set foot in a hospital... noncestvrai
Talon01
I think picking a specialty by reading about them in a book is a bad idea.

Frodoc
I have a similar question along this thread, If you choose one medical specialty, say internal med. Can you choose to switch to another specialty (let's say derm), at a point in your residency training? How about after you're done with the first residency? Can you re-enroll yourself in another field or is that a no-no?
