The Law
Hi everyone, I'm just curious if anyone knows how the various parts of the application are weighted. Also, are the non-academic experiences considered individually (i.e. each category assigned a separate mark) or holistically?
A-Stark
I don't know the exact breakdown, but I think it's something like one third each to the academic, non-academic, and interview components. There might be a breakdown somewhere below on the board too. I do know that the MCAT is being weighted a bit less - from 12 points to only 10. The Law
Thanks for the info. I wonder for the non-academic portion, if they assign a mark arbitrarily based on your essay & activities, or if each carries a specific weight. A-Stark
Oops, I realised I forgot to mention the portion given over to references - how they're weighted is probably changing this year as they're not required unless you get an interview. Dr.Notyet
Plus, at least two years ago anyway, when dal required 3 references, references were worth 15 points total on your app. So this year there is a requirement of 2 references, only after interviews are offered.... are they still worth 15 points total on our apps, I wonder, but obviously not considered for offers of interview. I think it was easier to decide on your Referees when you had to make 3 choices rather than 2.
meme me
A complete breakdown of weighting in previous years: Academic: /30 (MCAT, GPA, discretion factor) Supplemental: /30 (Extra-curriculars, jobs, volunteer work, medically related experience, essay) References: /15 Interview: /25 As previously mentioned, this could change a bit this year because of the reference change. zombiegirl1979
Talked to some friends in med school at Dal and they said the breakdowns have been modified over the last 2 years and today the interview is worth AT LEAST 30%.
