dvsn_by_zero
If I graduate as an OOP from a medical school in Saskatchewan, or Manitoba, or Calgary, or Dalhousie (smaller schools), having done several of my electives in Toronto (home-town), what are the chances of matching to a highly competitive (plastics, ortho, derm, ENT, etc.) residency in Toronto? Or Ontario more generally? What obstacles need to be overcome to make this happen? Additionally, if I graduate from one of these smaller schools, what are the chances of matching to a highly competitive residency in the same province that I went to med school in? svp2k5
You shouldn't be at any disadvantage at matching to another province, provided you are a good candidate. There are no quotas for out of province med students. The most important thing for matching seems to be showing interest (i.e. doing electives in that specialty at the place you want to go), and reference letters from Docs in that specialty.
