This position would require at least a two year committment. This would be a great oppurtunity for someone who has finished undergrad and is taking some time off before applying to med school. A position like this would allow you to gain clinical experience working with patients and physicians.

 

 

Hiring For:Research Associate/Clinical Study Coordinator

 

 

The Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the McMaster University Medical Centre of Hamilton Health Sciences has been in existence since 1985 as a regional centre for the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders and anxiety-related conditions. While the focus of our work is the provision of clinical services to our patients, we are also actively involved in a number of research projects, including collaborative and consultative/liaison relationships with specialists in Dermatology, Gastroenterology, and the Children's Hospital. The Anxiety Disorders Clinic Team is comprised of experienced health care professionals trained in the care of individuals with anxiety disorders. Included in the staff are psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, interns, residents, and undergraduate psychology students.

 

 

We are currently looking for a Research Associate/Clinical Study Coordinator. The duties shall include, but are not limited to, a person who will participate in research activities, design and write research protocols, research grants, and be involved in manuscript preparation. The position also requires a person who is willing to participate in conducting clinical trials for new medications in the treatment of anxiety disorders, complete various research administrative duties, as well as participate as a full member of the clinical team in the implementation of a wide variety of clinical research and any other duties as assigned. We require a person who is familiar with, or is willing to learn about:

 

reviewing and summarizing medical/psychiatric literature on a variety of topics

conducting standardized screening and assessment interviews using a variety of standardized assessment instruments (such as, SCID, ADIS, MINI)

maintaining comprehensive and accurate patient records in the conduct of clinical trials

managing several ongoing research projects, including the activities of part-time employees and volunteers

managing the process by which studies receive ethical approval from the university and hospital

using computer and Internet technology to conduct clinical trials and research

interacting with physicians, nurses other health care providers, representatives of various pharmaceutical companies, and other agencies in an efficient and professional manner

able to use medical search engines (PubMed, Medline, Psychlit, etc.) and perform literature searches

assisting in data collection and data entry for a variety of projects

able and willing to work flexible hours

 

 

The ideal candidate is an intelligent, dynamic, energetic, outgoing and ambitious person with at least a B.A. or B.Sc. who would like to gain two years of practical research experience prior to pursuing graduate studies or professional school. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work independently and be part of a multidisciplinary team. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to participate fully in the design, implementation, and publication of clinical research in a university hospital setting. Remuneration will be based on experience.
