MedIn2010
Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. Here goes... I know its suggested that at least one reference be "academic", does this mean that they should be a prof or TA who taught one of your courses? Or does a research supervisor qualify? So far for my references I've picked an employer who knows me well, and a doctor who I did a summer of research under. For the third I'm trying to choose between a prof who was the coordinator of my lab, and a masters student I was an RA with. The masters student knows me really well, the prof not so much although he did offer to write me a reference if I ever needed one at the end of last year. Is it okay to use the masters student - do you think my "academic" bases would be considered covered? (Also feel free to lol at my pathetically optimistic username. I'm making a new account if I don't get in...)
future_doc
If your prof can write you a "strong" LOR, perfect, but if it will be wishy washy, go with the masters student so long as he describes his professional association with you and writes a strong LOR. Good luck.
