untaken_4444
Hi guys, I am a Canadian applicant. My GPA is just under 3.5, i have a low MCAT. But i have a Master's degree, lots of volunteering, and have overcome many adversities. I was wondering if there are any medical schools that, like canadian schools, look at your nonacademic experiences and weight them at least as heavily as the academic. Thanks for your help in advance guys. I am familiar with the Canadian schools, but American schools are a big question mark for me. Any help would be appreciated! All American schools look at your application collectively. There's no "weighting" formula. They look at your GPA, MCAT, background and ECs as a whole to decide whether you are an appropriate candidate for admission. Weaknesses in any of those areas presents a challenge, but one that's not necessarily unsurmountable. A lacklustre GPA can be made up for with a strong MCAT, which you can always retake. You need to show that you can meet at least a minimum standard of academic ability and then everything else in your app will only help you. ontariostudent
I got a 25 on the mcat. You should really rewrite, unless you're from Newfoundland and want to go to MUN. A 25 won't get you looked at unless you're a refugee or something. Many people have grades plus MCAT plus outstanding ECs and research. You need to be competitive in GPA and or MCAT to have a chance.
