juicyprunes
When PDs express to a candidate (verbally/email) post-interview that he/she is going to be ranked highly, is this just part of the game? How should one respond (either verbally or by email)?
swedeboy
You're right...it's all a part of the CaRMS game and my advice is to ignore it. If they say it to you in person post-intervew, of course, be courteous and thank them but I wouldn't say anything else other than maybe something general like "your program is very appealing". I wouldn't respond to an e-mail because who knows, they might have sent it to everyone they interviewed. Programs do this for various reasons even though technically they are not supposed to. They likely want to try and influence your rank order so that they are a little higher up and have a greater chance of filling their spots up with the best candidates. However, this is not your best method of ranking programs. Rank the places you would to like to attend the most the highest and don't let a PDs verbal/e-mail statements to you about where you will be ranked affect that. Simple as that. Satsuma
It's a game. I know someone who was told by several programs that they would be ranked in the top however many....and ended up not even matching at all to that specialty in the end.
