tomato7
Could anyone who is a US or Carribean grad please comment on their experience of doing internal medicine (general or subspecialty) or family medicine elective in canada? What are the major differences between US and Canadian clinical rotations? Is it difficult to make a good impression on Canadian programs as a US/Carribean grad since you were not used to the system? What are the major differences between US and Canadian clinical rotations? US grad here. IM is more benign in Canada and the hours are more sane (9-5 pm unless you're on call). Depends on where you go, but at McMaster one of the best IM programs in the country, there's a lot of teaching (2 hours each day!!) and a very supportive environment. Is it difficult to make a good impression on Canadian programs as a US/Carribean grad since you were not used to the system? I didn't do any electives in Canada as a med student. I'd say if you're a US grad then matching isn't an issue especially for IM so doing electives in Canada at programs you're interested in would be more for your own benefit to gauge the dynamics of the program.
