towel
Has anyone else noticed that their essay when submitted to the online application "contains" more words than Microsoft Word counts? Mine is 1500 by MS Word's count, but 1531 by Dal's count. One thing it does is count hyphenated words as two words, but I'm not sure where the rest of my words are coming from. Has anyone else noticed this? Was it the same thing last year?
towel
Periods in degree abbreviations also end up making more words than there should be. I'll cut my essay down, but you guys might want to take note so you don't run into this problem at the last minute!
Applemanv3
I experienced the same, annoying issue. However, I have closer to 1350 words, so it has not been too detrimental. It's better to periodically paste into the window as you write. GL.
doc2B
Does the system prevent you from submitting because of the length of the essay? If not that slight difference in word count likely won't be noticed by the adcom members. It's really noticeable when someone writes an extra page or writes less than a page, but otherwise not so much.
towel
Yes, the system prevents you from even saving it.
doc2B
Oh that's too bad. The old system from a few years back didn't have that issue. But I can see why they'd change it, they were getting a number of essays over the word limit.
