psj
I have submitted my applications and recognize how much time my references have spent writing letters and filling out forms on my behalf... I would like to at least give each a thank you card. Is it appropriate to give a small gift as well? If yes, what would be an appropriate gift? Thanks. Leon
I plan to get them something when decisions release (regardless of outcome). I'll be getting them a card and something relevant to our personal interaction/research etc...
medgeek
I send them all a Christmas card and then a Thank you card when decisions are released.
jojoluvsu2
Everyone's different, but personally I think a gift might be overkill. Maybe when you get your acceptance, then a gift, but a card for now would be appropriate. If you don't get in, and you're planning on using the same references next cycle, you'll have to one-up your previous gift
medaholic
A Thank You card is usually enough, considering a lot of students forget to even thank their referees! If you want to add something extra, a small chocolate mint or some small treat with the thank you card is appropriate.

Anything more is pointless. This is 2011. Save your money and trees.
