Instability of PA

I don't think that is likely. From the article, everyone sounds pretty optimistic about the program. McMaster has placed itself as a guru in Canadian health and if they saw it fit to erect a PA program, they will probably pull the political strings to ensure that PA is around for a longtime.

Furthermore, PA's are a big part of the US healthcare system, setting a positive precedent for Canada.

Indeed, there are few guarantees in life. "Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." Benjamin Franklin, Letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy (13 November 1789).

Remember, too, that PAs generate income for physicians by seeing more patients and doing the job of the physician. When a physician hires a PA she/he will bill for the work done by that PA and from those billings will come the PAs income. There are already several physicians in Ontario who have done this with no funding from the Government. PAs are here now whether the Government funds them directly or not.
