'Twas the night before d-day

'Twas the night before D-day, when all through the boards,

Not a creature was stirring, not even Laura Secord;

The mailboxes were eyed by the candidates with care,

In hopes that an offer soon would be there;

The mailmen were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of stalkers danced in their heads;

And adcoms in exhaustion, and admissions...ya they're all brats,

Had just settled down for three-day naps,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

My moon, at it's best, as white as new snow,

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

...Damn it! It was only a neighbour...drinking beer,

Being manic, I thought to myself, rather quick,

If I didn't take a sleeping pill, I soon would be sick,

More rapid than measles, I grabbed for my cane,

And I whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, IAN! now, CHAMP! now, JAMES and PETER!

On, SHKELO! on BROWSING! on, MEDICATOR and BEAVER!

To the top of the thread! to the top of the list!

Pray away! Pray away! Pray away...ahhh almost bliss!"

As nervous dry heaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with the toilet bowl, and we ask ourselves "why?",

Why do we do this? Is it because we all knew?

That Peter, that old man, was dry heaving too!

And then, in a twinkling, he will appear,

The mailman, with the envelope, we've been waiting for ALL YEAR!

We'll draw up our courage, spy it then turn it around

Then we'll rip that damn envelope open like hounds...

Hopefully, all who deserve it will get what they should,

...and those who do not...we'll...that's not so good,

But one thing's for sure, the waitlist will pass,

...and, with any luck, dear applicants, it will move fast.

And away we will go like the down of a hen,

On paths that will bring us new learning and friends,

I know that the possibility of sleep is quite slight,

But just think...it might soon be our plight...to stay up all night!

So take some good medicine, think good thoughts, of being "in",

and hopefully...I pray...that we will ALL win.

Good luck everyone...

Peter

Ironic that your poem is a christmas theme. This entire event is kind of 'christmasy' - such anticipation when you know that the actual event may not live up to expectations and you will have to wait A WHOLE YEAR to do it again! I feel like a five year old on Christmas eve convinced that the earth has ceased to turn and that morning will NEVER come! Oh I am slowly going crazy.... sing with me people SING! :rollin

Wow,

That is well written. I`m glad that I`m away from home right now. I`ve got an exam tomorrow in fact, so I`ll be distracted until I actually get the news. Good luck to you and everyone else!

Peter,

while I dont always agree with all of your posts, I think that this one was special. Special because I found myself reading despite my thoughts telling me.....I am at work, its 9AM, its 31 may and I am reading an adapted christmas poem....and could not stop

Thanks for the light relief. Good luck. My letter will take extra long because we have 2 holidays next week (3-4 june) to celebrate the Queen's 50 year of reign. Furthermore, they are expected major work slowdowns (esp mail service) during England's first 2 world cup games.

Good luck to all.

Champ...you lucky guy...why are you complaining? Your May 31st comes a whole 6 hours before us! :)

Give my regards to the Queen...and tell Prince William to stop smoking that funny stuff! He'll quickly become another Margaret Trudeau!

...I miss the UK...I used to go frequently when I was young (cousins in Yorkshire who breed Grey Hounds)...I also travelled there often to meet with colleagues at other Nortel sites...brits are one of the most pleasant and accomodating people worldwide...one of my favorite places is Brighton by the Sea..."The World's Smallest Pub"...have you ever been there? Excellent mushie peas!

I am yet to go to Brighton by the Sea, but I have heard it is a very nice place. If I am fortunate to get a "nice" letter, I will be sad to leave the UK. I have been living here for 4 years and my wife is now here as well working as a teacher. We live in Oxford and life is so nice and uncomplicated. We go everywhere by bicycle or by foot.

Very simple and definitely not big city. There are pros and cons of everywhere, but in terms of standard of living and medical practice, I think Canada has much more to offer.

At the moment, most people here are World Cup Crazy....All the pubs are offering World Cup Brekkies.

take it easy,

Peter,

I must commend you on your fantastic poem and thank you for my inclusion as a reindeer in ur homer-esque epic. Best of luck in making it through the weekend.

And as for the world cup, all I have to say is "GO ENGLAND", though i do apologize if it delays anyone's mail.

I must say, part of what makes this site so great is the fact that people like you post such wonderful diversions while we all wait... that poem was quite entertaining!

What a way to pass the time, waiting out the LONGEST weekend of my life!

Good luck to all on Monday... :)

A silly song written in those halcyon days of the first week of school last year, before the crazy workload kicked in. Might be a fun way to describe emotions you've going through, are going through, and maybe will go through when you get in!

I was gonna go to school so I could get meds

Gonna study, gonna learn all the tools, so I could get meds

Gonna keep my grades so high, and I know why, yea yea

So I could get meds, so I could get meds, so I could get meds.

I was gonna take a test so I could get meds

Put that giant MCAT headache to rest so I could get meds

I was in that room all day, and I know why, yea yea

So I could get meds, so I could get meds, so I could get meds.

I was gonna check the mail so I could get meds

Look for it every day without fail so I could get meds

Then I let out a joyous cry, and I know why, yea yea

Because I got meds, because I got meds, because I got meds.

I was gonna pay some bills, but then I got meds

Exercise financial skills, because I got meds

I’ll be broke until I’m forty, and I know why, yea yea

Because I got meds, because I got meds, because I got meds.

Now I gotta go to class because I got meds

All the studying’s a pain in the ass, because I got meds

My notes are three feet high, and I know why, yea yea

Because I got meds, because I got meds, because I got meds.

I was gonna learn the ropes, because I got meds

I know nothing, but I got hopes, because I got meds

Gonna pass the damn exams, and I know why, hey hey

‘Cause I got meds, because I got meds, because I got meds.

I was gonna learn to heal, because I got meds

Gonna help the way my patients will feel, because I got meds

To make a difference I will try, and I know why, yea yea

Because I got meds, because I got meds, because I got meds.

Soon we’re gonna all be docs, because we got meds

Gonna blast our way right out of the blocks, because we got meds

We’re the class of 2006, and that just kicks, hey hey

Because we got meds, because we got meds, because we got meds.

(Or for those at McMaster, and my class here at Western: “We’re the class of 2005, and we know why, hey hey”)

Cheers,

Crackers UWO MEDS 1

Excellent...of course, I only relate to the first half or so...but I'm hoping to internalize the 'pain' in order to be able to relate to the second half as well!
